Municipal Water Supply and Sewage Disposal, Prishtina II

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Since the conclusion of the Kosovo War in 1999, the Federal Republic of Germany has actively participated in the country's reconstruction efforts, particularly in emergency aid measures for rehabilitating water supply infrastructure.

These initial measures were subsequently focused on ensuring long-term supply and disposal infrastructure sustainability through investments in water supply expansion, aligning with EU standards. The Water Supply and Sewage Disposal in Pristina project, encompassing Phases I-III, built upon previous emergency aid initiatives undertaken by German development cooperation and the World Bank.

Phase II of the project aimed to enhance water supply and sanitation through various measures, including the rehabilitation of the sewerage network in the City Centre (Dodona) spanning 15 km and ranging in diameter from DN 300 to DN 1200. Additionally, efforts were made to safeguard water sources, such as lakes and well fields, and to rehabilitate the Badovc Water Treatment Plant by constructing a new filter plant with a capacity of 420 l/s and a reservoir of 3,000 m3. Other initiatives involved the installation of District Metered Areas (DMA) in Prishtina and Fushe Kosovo, incorporating a bulk metering system. Furthermore, the water supply networks in Dodona, Muhaxheret, Sunny Hill, and Fushe Kosove were upgraded, replacing approximately 85 km of pipes ranging from DN 80 to DN 600. Around 5,700 new house connections were established, each equipped with a water meter, and a water meter test bench was installed at the Regional Water Company Prishtina (RWCP).
