WATER & WASTEWATER

Consulting Services for Water Supply and Waste Water Program Kosovo VI, Phase I Region: Prizren –Peja (2009-2011)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main focus has been on rehabilitating the pipe network, as high water losses have been identified in the distribution network.

For the successful completion of Kosovo VI/Phase I, several steps need to be taken. Firstly, there will be a partial supply of bulk meters in Peja, specifically for the District Metering Areas (DMAs) located at the network extremities. Secondly, any unclear or low-priority measures will be canceled based on the accessibility of indicators. The main focus has been on rehabilitating the pipe network, as high water losses have been identified in the distribution network. This improvement will benefit a maximum number of people by enhancing water distribution. Additionally, further investigation will be conducted to gather sufficient details for the design of selected pipe replacement projects. This includes assessing the hydraulic network and electricity supply conditions related to the Prizren main pumping station, the “burned” well pump station in Suhareka, and the rehabilitation of the sensitive spring capture at “40 bunares” in Prizren.

The available detailed design for planned investments will be optimized through additional input. Reprogrammed pipe replacement measures in Prizren, covering approximately 6 kilometers, will also be investigated. Detailed designs and tender documents will be prepared to facilitate the implementation of the planned activities. Regular reporting will be conducted to document the project’s success, identify and address any problems, and assess the level of fulfillment of the predefined indicators. Through these steps, the Kosovo VI/Phase I project will be completed.

Service Provided by the Team

There are several remaining tasks and investments to be completed.

Firstly, there is a need to finalize the design and tender documents for HDR Peja and Hidroregjioni Prizren by the FIDIC Book. Following that, the tendering process will be carried out and contracts will be awarded for HDR Peja and Hidroregjioni Prizren. The construction phase will be closely supervised during the construction period and the subsequent liability period for HDR Peja and Hidroregjioni Prizren. Leak detection measures will also be implemented to identify and address any water leaks or losses in these areas.

Furthermore, several investments are planned to enhance the water supply infrastructure. This includes the rehabilitation of the intake, treatment system, and reservoir in Prizren, as well as the procurement of new pumps to replace old ones. The automation and rehabilitation of the Banje reservoir in Prizren are also on the agenda. Additionally, a new reservoir will be constructed in Bazhdarana, Prizren, to improve water storage capacity. In the Peja district, there will be the installation of a water supply pipeline in Vitomirica and the rehabilitation of the water pipeline in Shat Kulla. Moreover, a new water pipeline will be constructed in the Peja district, and a pipeline will be installed in Dubrava prison.
