ARCHITECTURE & URBAN PLANNING

Conceptual Design Competition “Primary and High School” – Malishevë

LOCATION

The School proposal in the city of Malisheve takes part in the creation of an active urban facility.

The goal of this construction is double: it must be a functional and sustainable public facility and also a breakthrough of this new neighborhood. The school location is an important link between the different purpose buildings in the rest of the area. It integrates itself gently to the existing urban grid. The elevation creates unreachable terraces significant of suspended gardens boost the building’s overall energy efficiency – and recreational value. This reminds of a building full of nature.

Urban Solution

Future growth is expected within the building’s floor plan. Ground-level voids offer semi-sheltered outdoor spaces, ready to be infilled as classrooms as the need for incremental growth arises.

The spirit of the project is exposed in its suitable scale and thoughtful vernacular, which developed as a response to the residential context and large program size. Physical structures take this harmonious relationship with nature even further via roof-based solar panels to lower the city’s overall energy consumption, noteworthy air quality improvements due to the green terraces and an overall decrease of noise. Say hello to a green, livable future. The building employs strong, simple forms relating to the adjacent neighborhood. Inside, students and staff are greeted by pupil-like design elements. The interior scale of the school is condensed to environments of liveliness, intimacy and wonder.

This school keeps the promise of simple and clear daily open- ration, a sustainable building. Such learning place leaves its place to the imagination.  The design seeks the creation of a compact, dynamic and recognizable building. The result is a volume that adapts generously to the existing topography and is structured in a clear way both in volume and in the differentiation of uses.
