Conceptual Design Competition “Sheshi i Dëshmorëve” – Podujevë – “1st Price” Award
The park merges into the streets and is defined by three elements: the silhouette walk, the decks, and the outdoor spaces.
In the heart of Podujeva, the square represents a change in urban public space. Its design suggests re-engaging locals and visitors with the urban environment’s natural potential as a different public place for everyone to enjoy together in the busiest area of the city. The park merges into the streets and is defined by three elements: the silhouette walk, the decks, and the outdoor spaces. These elements are enclosed by a rich landscape to comfort the people. Beyond these, there are unique experiences for people of all ages to discover.
Working as a preeminent public plaza, this design podium integrates four different units which are easy to build and reconfigure, letting adaptability of function.
These four units are installations, cubic seating, greenery, and fountains. The units each serve a separate individual purpose and can be combined and settled to give new functionalities.
The project is made up of a continuous blue stripe and a new square for the city: The continuous blue stripe terminates in a complex labyrinth pattern that includes all activities within the area, new square is designed with ample green spaces, strategically positioned to facilitate leisure activities for the community, featuring play areas for children, benches, and pedestrian walkways.
A centrally located light source illuminates the entire area, emphasizing the community’s occupation of public space and promoting the concept of street parties as a shared experience, the installation of new sculptures creates a striking contrast that sets this area apart from the rest of the city, making it a unique and memorable destination, rich naturalistic planting with decking and extensive paths create friendly spaces for walking, relaxing, and creative motivation as well as attractive environments for outdoor shows.
This new park expressed in the waves of rising and falling greenery reflects and contrasts with the geometry of the site. It aims to give a transformative influence on the local public and to offer the inhabitants a logic of personality and conceit.
