ARCHITECTURE & URBAN PLANNING

Conceptual Design Competition “Parku i Pajtimit” – Gllama-Bresalc – “3d Price” Award

LOCATION

``Parku i pajtimit`` is intended to be the most important public recreational park for the citizens of Bresalc, Gjilan.

Its purpose is to cater to traditional, recreational, commemorative, and educational activities. However, more significantly, it serves as a symbol of peace, fostering harmony within the community.

To achieve this goal, the architectural palette of the park emphasizes the use of sustainable, natural materials that exude a sense of quality, longevity, and balance with the park’s context. Wood and natural basalt stone are two defining materials that contribute to the park’s overall aesthetic. Spanning a 3.5-hectare site, the park acts as a spatial, visual, and cultural link between the planned future community and the charming landscape.

Urban Solution

The landscape design process began with comprehensive site planning, sculpting the terrain to create a captivating spatial sequence that meanders through a forested hill setting, offering an enchanting nature journey.

During the workshop sessions, the park’s spaces were carefully defined in consideration of the present and future context, projecting the park’s image onto the city while recognizing its role in a non-identity territory. The park features a flowering tree grove, ornamental grasses, and native plants with seasonal colors. A shared street passes through the park, connecting two open spaces and transforming them into a unified civic area by reducing traffic lanes and introducing tall native trees, thus slowing down traffic and encouraging pedestrian activity throughout the entire square. The park is divided into four sections, each serving as a distinct chapter, enriched with natural scenery, furniture, and facilities.

The meeting point near the trunk of the old tree: a space for reconciliation

Amphitheater: a gathering place for various events and group activities

Children’s corner: an area dedicated to games and activities for children

Educational area: outdoor classrooms immersed in nature

Through the resolution of overlapping traditional, cultural, programmatic, and environmental needs, the park becomes a central hub that contributes to the vitality of open spaces in the countryside for generations to come. The park stays true to its original vision of becoming an urban district that serves as an inspirational beacon for the entire country.
