Conceptual Design Competition “FSSH Building” – “2nd Price” Award
With the advancements in medical technology and the resulting increase in life expectancy, it is crucial to consider the implications of these changes.
Architecture, as a fundamental human activity in the built environment, must effectively respond to these challenges. The Health Insurance Fund serves as a vital component of a comprehensive infrastructure that houses the Regional Section of the Medical Association in Prishtina. The building is strategically located in an expansive 50-acre site.
The internal layout of the building embodies a sense of understated elegance.
Notably, a vertical axis system of movement organizes the spaces, facilitating access to various areas while creating a rhythmic interplay with external openings. The allocation of interior spaces is of utmost importance within a social context, and the adoption of a simple distribution system was critical in enabling this process.
Each quadrant is dedicated to specific activities, such as the Finance and General Services Department, the Department of Management Information Systems, the Department of Pharmaceutical Services, and the Department of Health Care Services. Additionally, dedicated spaces on the upper floor serve as sightseeing corners, enhancing transparency throughout the building.
The placement of the stairs fosters a harmonious relationship, allowing easy access between different floors and spaces. A central, verdant garden brings natural light into the building, creating a serene environment. Moreover, it facilitates visual communication across floors, fostering interaction between the common areas of different office units.
The guiding principles of equilibrium and synchronization underscore the design choices. They manifest through a seamless integration of the building’s purpose, spatial configuration, and indoor ambience.
