The Feasibility Study for Drinking Water Supply in the Municipality of Malisheva was developed to identify a sustainable, reliable and economically viable solution for improving drinking water services for the local population. The project focused on assessing the potential of the Banja groundwater source, the condition and capacity of the existing water supply infrastructure, and the municipality’s future water demand. The overall objective was to support long-term water security and create the technical basis for future investments in a modern and resilient water supply system.
The study examined a range of technical, environmental, socio-economic and financial alternatives for water abstraction, treatment, pumping, transmission and distribution. Detailed hydrological, hydrogeological and hydraulic analyses were carried out to determine the quantity and quality of available water resources and to assess how the proposed solutions would integrate with the existing network. The project also included cost estimates, economic and cost-benefit analyses, environmental considerations, permitting requirements, property issues and institutional arrangements.
Through this comprehensive assessment, the project provides the Municipality of Malisheva with a clear framework for selecting the most sustainable long-term solution for drinking water supply. The recommended investments are intended to improve the reliability and quality of water services, strengthen the resilience of the system, support future population and economic growth, and contribute directly to better living conditions and public health for the communities of Malisheva.
